Jim Corbett National Park is the proud of Uttarakhand situated in the foothills of the Himalayas surrounded by lush greenery and high mountains. The original name of this park was ‘Hailey National Park’. It was established in 1936 to protect the endangered Bengal tiger. Later in 1957, it was renamed as Jim Corbett National Park after James Edward Corbett, who was a British- India hunter and killed the most endangered man-eater Bengal tigers. During his life, he killed many man eater tigers and leopard and became popular and authored few books namely Man-Eaters of Kumaon, Jungle Lore, and others. Jim Corbett National Park is famous for nature lovers and for professional photographer. It draws a huge number of tourist offering excellent sightseeing. Being the India’s first national park, it is renowned for most majestic leopards and elephants. There are over 50 mammal species, 585 bird species and 25 reptiles. It is one of the best destination for ecotourism that sustain the livelihood of the local people. Tourist can experience jeep safari and explore some endangered species in the jungle.   • Garjiya Devi Temple, Jim Corbett: Garjiya Devi Temple is a sacred Shakti shrine located in the Garjiya village. It is an ancient temple in the jungle. The temple is also known as the festival of lights of the gods. This temple is visited by thousands of devotees. There is also a statue of Lakshmi Narayan of 9th Century. Devotees take bath in the river situated near Garjiya temple.
  • Dhangarhi Museum, Jim Corbett: It is another major tourist attraction. Corbett Museum is in a heritage bungalow of Edward James Jim Corbett. Tourist can see the belonging and life history of Mr. Jim Corbett still intact at the museum. It also includes some great valued personal belongings, letters written by him, antiques and rare photographs. It is a must visiting place if you are visiting Jim Corbett.
