Kanatal is a lesser known tourist destination near Mussoorie and Dhanaulti in the state of Uttarakhand. It is located at an altitude of 2590 meters. Literally, Kanatal means ‘one-eyed-lake’. It is a little hamlet famous for its maiden beauty of the hills. It is unexplored, scenic and most peaceful amongst all. Kanatal is a popular tourist hotspot and simply heaven. History of Kanatal is not much known. There is a famous temple named Surkunda Devi dedicated to Sati. Legend says that Lord Shiva brought Sati’s death body from Haridwar to this place called Kanatal. It is a weekend getaway for the local populace. People seeking for peace and solitude, Kanatal is the right place for those travelers. One can feel a sense of calmness. The name of this place got its name after a dried lake named Kanatal. The weather remains pleasant throughout the year. Camping amidst the nature is the best way to explore Kanatal.
