Adilabad is a city which was formerly called as Edulapuram. It lies in Adilabad district of Telangana. The name of the city has been derived from Yusuf Adil Shah, who was the erstwhile ruler of Bijapur. It is the second largest and richest district in the state of Telangana. During the rule of Qutub Shahis, the original name of Adilabad was Ediabad. This district was reigned by various dynasties like the Mauryas, Satavahanas, Chalukyas, Qutub Shahis and others ruled this place. Adilabad is a historical landmark where there are historical temples, monuments and shimmering waterfalls. The history of this place relates to the hoary past of the Gondvana and Berar regions. In the medieval period during 1240 to 1750 A.D., the Gond kings established their power over this district for nearly five centuries. Later in the modern period, this district was handover to the officer called Viceroy of the Deccan by Aurangzeb. As it is covered with 75% thick topical moist deciduous forest of Adilabad, there are few wildlife sanctuaries popular for tourist destination. This place is full of history buffs and best spot for adventure tourist who love to explore the hidden treasure of nature.

  • Kuntala Waterfall, Adilabad: Kunrtala Waterfall is the highest waterfalls in Telangana, which lies amidst dense forests. It is 45 meters tall. It is bestowed with nature’s beauty located in the middle of the mountain range of Sahyadri. This fall receives its source from the River Kadam. Tourist will fell in love after visiting this waterfall. According to myths, it is believed that the name of this waterfall got its name from Shakuntala.
  • Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary, Adilabad: This is another popular tourist destination in Adilabad. It is around 94km from Adilabad. Kawal Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular wildlife sanctuary situated amidst dense forest. This wildlife sanctuary was established in the year 1964. This sanctuary is famous for a wide range of species like – tigers, panthers, cobra, crocodiles, peacock and many other exotic faunas. It is one of the best place for excursion tour.
  • Pochera Waterfalls, Adilabad: Pochera waterfalls is a fascinating site situated in the thickness of the forests in Adilabad. Tourist can have a spectacular viewpoint of the landscape. The stream of water falls from a height of 20 meter. This fall is surrounded by dense forests having variety of plants and trees. It is around 47km from Adilabad. It is a natural waterfall with picturesque and beautiful scenery.
  • Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary, Adilabad: Pranahita Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the oldest protected area in the Telangana region. This wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 136 sq. km. It was established in the year 1980 and is consists of variety of species. Some of the wild animals that are found in this sanctuary are – tigers, leopards, sloth bear and so on. It is a perfect breeding ground for the Black Buck. The natural rock formations that adds to the beauty of the landscape is a major attraction for tourists.
  • Sivaram Wildlife Sanctuary, Adilabad: This wildlife sanctuary was established in the year 1987 situated on Godavari River banks. This Sanctuary has a rich variety of flora and fauna. November to April is the best season to visit the sanctuary. It is it home to the marsh crocodile or Mugger. Some of the animals found here are tigers, panthers, wild boar, sloth bear, and python. One can avail jeep safari inside the forest.
