The name Hastinapur has been taken from two Sanskrit word Hastina means elephant and puram means city. It is an ancient town and ‘The seat of Kauravas’. This is the place where the epic Mahabharata have taken place in the city of Hastinapur. It was the capital of the Kuru dynasty of kings. This was the capital of the Kauravas and the Pandavas. This is the place where entire epic of Mahabharata (The Hindu Epic) took place. According to excavation, it has a great historic importance. Apart from Hinduism it has also become an important pilgrimage place for the Jains as it is also the birth place of three Jain Teerthankara. Hastinapur is said to be the Kashi of Jain religion. It is fascinating in its own way as it has kept alive the mythology of India.
