Rampur is a busy city deemed with various industries. Rampur became a princely state under the British. It was ruled by a dynasty of Muslim nawabs who were great connoisseurs of the arts. They drew hundreds of scholars and artists to their court; whose books and paintings became part of the state collection. They also established a famous school of classical music. Originally, it was a group of four villages named Kather, the name of Raja Ram Singh. Faizabad is another name which was proposed by the first Nawab. Later the name Faizabad was changed to Mustafabad alias Rampur. After Delhi and Lucknow, Rampur is considered as third school of poetry. Raza Library is one of the important tourist destination in Rampur. This library has a collection of almost 1,000 books, numerous rare manuscripts and portraits dating from 16th to 18th centuries. Rampur is a major political and cultural center of the region that attracts thousands of visitors every year.
