Medak is a municipal town in Medak district of Telangana. Medak is also a historical place dipped in histories. It is a heritage place with natural greenery. Earlier, this town was known as Sidhapuram, later it was named as Gulshanabad. Medak was formed in the year 1953. It has a great historical and architectural importance in the state of Telangana. It was popularly referred to as Methukuseema where ‘Methuku’ is a Telugu word that means cooked grains of rice. Medak is around 100 km away from the major tourist city of Hyderabad. During the reign of Kakatiya dynasty, this town was at the height of progress. This district is one of the best places to experience Tourism in Telangana. Medak Cathedral is the largest church in entire Asia and second largest in the world after Vatican. It is an ideal tourist place surrounded by historical heritage sites, pilgrimage sites, famous temples and lakes. There are some wildlife sanctuary and forest which is popular for spotting birds and wild animals. Once the Nizams of Hyderabad used this forests as their hunting grounds.

  • Medak Fort, Medak: Medak Fort is a remarkable historical and architectural legacy. It got its name from the phrase ‘methuku durgam’ meaning ‘cooked rice’. This fort was constructed in the 12th century by the Kakatiyan rulers. Later, several modifications were done by the Qutub Shahi rulers. It has stood tall and proud amidst several wars over the past 500 years.
  • Medak Cathedral, Medak: Medak Cathedral is the largest church in South-Asia. The formerly Anglican Cathedral was built by the British Wesleyan Methodists. It took ten years to complete the monumental piece of architecture. The three stained glass windows, depicts the stories from Bible. The roof of the church is sound proof made by hollow sponge material and it has an impressive style of vaulting.
  • Pocharam Dam and Wildlife Sanctuary, Medak: Pocharam Wildlife Sanctuary is an ideal tourist attraction place located 16km away from Medak. Formerly, this Sanctuary was a hunting ground of the Nizams of Hyderabad. It was established in the year 1952. There is a wonderful dam where water flows throughout the year. This the best place to relax and play in water. The sanctuary got its name from the Pocharam Lake. It is the main breeding areas for birds, crocodiles and turtles.
  • Edithanur Cave, Medak: Edithanur caves are famous for pre-historic rock carving. It is one of the most beautiful tourist destination for the lovers of art and painting. It is also best for the students from History background. This cave is said to have been inhabited by holy men, alchemists and healers who were known as Siddhas. It is very difficult to explore the caves as legends and rumors of unnatural accidents are in the air.
  • Archaeological Museum, Medak: Archaeological museum is a feast to the history lovers. This museum is opened throughout the day. Main attractions in this museum are - the figurines made of terracotta, pottery made from bones and shells. It is a historical treasure trove of Telangana. Most of the artefacts that are excavated are from the Medak Fort. There are also other structures which bear a strong Buddhist influence indicating the Buddhist era.
