Lonavala is also known as Lonavla, being a part of the Sahyadri hills situated at an altitude of 2,047 ft. above sea level. The name Lonavla derives from Len that means ‘a resting place carved from stone’ and Avali means ‘series’. Literally, it means a place which has a series of such Len around it. As per Indian history, this place was a part of the Yadava dynasty. Later, it came under Mughals. This hill station was discovered by Lord Elphinstone in 1871, who was the Governor of Bombay Presidency at the time. Lonavla is a popular and one of the most romantic hill station surrounded by lots of waterfalls, lakes and hills. Because of its nature beauty, people called it as ' ‘Jewel of Sahyadri’. And for some other it is known as ‘City of Caves’.  It is well-known for its ‘chikki’ and fudge. It is the most sought tourist destination in India that is surrounded by magnificent delicacy, historical forts, ancient caves and beautiful lakes. Lonavala is one such destination which makes for a superb place to relish natural beauty and a perfect place for honeymooners, youth and celebrities. Lonavala is the best leisure place for the inhabitant of Mumbai and Pune. It is also an ideal destination for trekking. Best time to visit this place is during monsoon season undoubtedly the season for love and romance.

  • Lohagad Fort, Lonavala: Lohagad literally means Iron Fort. It is placed at an altitude of more than 1050 meters. This fort has a long history used extensively by Chatrapati Shivaji. The fort has four doors namely - ‘Ganesh Darwaja’, ‘Narayan Darwaja’, ‘Hanuman Darwaja’ and ‘Maha Darwaja’. From here tourist can view the beautiful “Pawana Dam”.
  • Karla Caves, Lonavala: Karla Caves is also known as Karle Caves or Karla Cells. The caves are a complex of ancient Indian Buddhist rock-cut cave shrines, from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD. Historically it is associated with the Mah?s??ghika sect of Buddhism and later with Hinduism. These monuments are protected under the Archaeological Survey of India.
  • Valvan Dam, Lonavala: It is one of the most beautiful Dam which is covered by lush greenery and calm surroundings. This dam is built on the river Kundali which originates from the Western Ghats, making it perfect location for numerous picnic spots. Also, best place for photography and people seeking for peace and solace.
  • Lonavala Lake, Lonavala: There are total four lakes in Lonavala of which Lonavala is one of the most popular lake that is best for Nature Lovers, Photo Fanatics, Fun Lovers. This place attracts a lot of tourist from all over India. During winter season, the lake dries up.
  • Tiger's Leap, Lonavala: Tiger’s Leap is one of the most popular tourist attraction point. The echo point is a major fascination point to visit. This got its name from its appearance of that like a tiger leaping into the valley.
  • Bhaja Caves, Lonavala: Bhaja caves are among the oldest caves in India and date back all the way to 160 B.C. Beyond this is a unique cluster of 14 stupas, five inside and nine outside a smaller cave. Bhaja Caves are the perfect place to visit for the people wanting to explore and learn some interesting old architecture.
  • Bhushi Dam, Lonavala: The location looks like just another fun destination teeming with weekend crowd. It is a masonry dam on the Indrayani River in Lonavala. This dam was built in the late 1860s. It was built for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway as a source of water for their steam engines.
  • Korigad Fort, Lonavala: Korigad is a hill fort located about 20 km away from Lonavala. There is a temple dedicated to goddess Koraidevi. The interesting part of the fort is that its wall is completely intact and one can walk along its entire perimeter. With this there are also lots of camping sites on the fort.
  • Kune Waterfalls, Lonavala: Kune Waterfalls is one of the 14th highest waterfall in India, situated between Lonavala and Khandala.  It provides a majestic view and an enjoyable opportunity to bathe in the water that flows through the valley. The best time to visit Kune Falls is during the monsoon season.
  • Tikona Fort, Lonavala: Tikona Fort can be reached by trekking. It is one of the easier forts to climb at a height of 3500 ft. hill and offers unhindered views of the entire region including the forts of Tung, Lohagad and Visapur. There are 2 paths to trek up. Best place for adventurous tours.
  • Visapur Fort, Lonavala: Visapur Fort is also known as Visapoor Fort. It is a part of the Lohagad-Visapur fortification, built during 1713-1720 CE by Balaji Vishwanath. While taking a trek to this fort one can visit caves, cisterns of water, a decorated arch and old houses that are within the fort.
  • Tung Fort, Lonavala: Tung Fort has an elevation of 1075 m above sea level.  It was built by the Adil Shahi dynasty before 1600 CE. It is a prominent landmark which has an oval shape, thick walls and numerous bastions. A steep climb on grassy slopes leads to a temple. It is an ideal place for trekking.
