Belgaum is a heritage city in the state of Karnataka. It is in the northwestern parts of Karnataka bordered by two states, Maharashtra and Goa that is on the Western Ghats. Belgaum is the biggest districts in the state of Karnataka situated near the foothills of the Sahyadri mountain range. As most of the inhabitants of this town are weavers, it is known as ‘Poor Man’s Switzerland’. Officially, it is known as Belagavi. Earlier it was known as "Venugram" taken from the Sanskrit word Velugrama or the "Bamboo Village" means village of Bamboos.  This city is also known as the "Sugar Bowl of Karnataka". Belgaum is famous for foundry (produces metal castings). It was a part of the Bombay which is in the state of Maharashtra till 1961. Belgaum was ruled by many rulers such as the Chalukyas, the Rashtrakutas, the Rattas, the Goa Kadambas, the Yadavas, the Vijayanagar and others. There are many attractive tourist visiting places that are amazing and cozy place nested in stunning nature. There are wide varieties of historical monuments and sites that attract lots of tourists from all over India.  Some famous attractions are - Belgaum Fort, Kapileshwara Temple, Belgaum, Kamal Basati, Chikki Basadi, Hunshevari, Siddeshwar Temple and many more. 

Main Attractions
  • Kapileshwara Temple, Belgaum: Kapileshwara Temple is one of the old Shiva temples in Karnataka. It has a history since 1135.  Shiv raatri is celebrated annually in this temple. Many devotees come here to worship Lord Shiva. This temple also has sannidhis for Vishnu and Ganesh. It is very well maintained and peaceful.

  • Belgaum Fort, Belgaum: Belgaum Fort is also known as Belagavi Fort. This fort was built by Jaya Raya that is also called as Bichi Raja during the Ratta Dynasty in the year 1204 AD. It is a major tourist attraction. This fort was declared as heritage monument. It was believed that old Belgaum was founded by a Jaina king.
  • Kamal Basadi, Belgaum: It is an ancient Indian heritage. It is a Jain Temple that was built during the 10th Century AD. This temple is under the protection of Archaeological Department. This temple is so called because of the Gumbaj of the temple in the form of the lotus of 72 petals. The pillars of the temple are decorated with carvings and brightly polished.
  • Military Mahadeva Temple, Belgaum: It is a beautiful temple inside the defense area. This temple is very popular and a must visit place for all devotees. The environment is calm and serene surrounded by garden. This temple gives peace to mind which is famous in Belgaum. It has a good structure which has its own traditions. One can go with their child to spend quality time. It is a very ideal place to spend a relaxed evening.
