Mangalore is a port city located in the state of Karnataka. It is considered as one of the most important shipping ports in India, the city is located on the backwaters of the Netravati and Gurupura rivers. The city is also known for its Cashew and Coffee production and contributes to 75% of their export in India. The city is named after local deity Mangaladevi, the city established by Pandyan King Chettian, in 715 CE and named it Mangalapuram even though the region dates to Mauryan Empire. Later it became part of Mysore Kingdom under Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan before it was annexed by British Empire in 1799. Manglore has tropical monsoon climate with moderate temperature ranging in between 32 and 23 degrees Celsius throughout the year and rainfall from May-October. There are many tourist attractions throughout the city like Kudroli Gokarnath Temple, Kadri Manjunath Temple, St. Aloysius Chapel, Tannirbhavi Beach, Panambur Beach, Kateel Shri Durgaparameshwari Temple, Someshwara Temple and Beach, Mangaladevi Temple, Milagres Church, and Sasihithlu Beach to name a few.

Main Attractions
  • Mangaladevi Temple, Mangalore: Mangaladevi Temple is one of the major tourist attractions of Mangalore. The temple is located at about 3kms from the heart of the city. Mangaladevi Temple is dedicated to Goddess Mangaladevi. The name of the city is derived from presiding deity “Goddess Mangaladevi” Previously the Manglore city was known as Mangalapur. The temple was built by the King of the Ahepa dynasty in the 19th century.
  • Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, Mangalore: Often called as Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Kshetra, it is one of the most prominent Hindu temples of this region. Gokarnanatheshwara Temple is dedicated to Gokarnanatha, a form of Lord Shiva. The temple was consecrated by Narayana Guru. The architecture of the temple is the Dravidian style and features a golden colored Gopuram which is 60 feet high.
  • Sultan Battery, Mangalore: It is a watch tower and one of the major tourist attractions of Manglore. Sultan Battery: was constructed by Tipu Sultan in 1784. Sultan Battery is located in Boloor, which is situated at about 4 km from the city center of Mangalore.
  • Kadri Manjunath Temple, Mangalore: Another important religious and beatutiful attraction of this region, Kadri Manjunath Temple lies at the foot of Kadri hills. It is located at the distance about 5kms from the city center of Mangalore city. It is said to be the temple was originally established by Vajrayana Buddhist but later on due to fall of Buddhism this temple was converted for the deity Manjunatha by Hindus. It believed that the temple was constructed during the 10th or 11th century.
  • St. Aloysius Chapel, Mangalore: Located in the heart of the city of Mangalore on the Lighthouse Hill, St. Aloysius Chapel is one of the most popular and an amazing tourist attraction of Mangalore. The Church was established by Jesuit Missionaries in 1880. The walls of St. Aloysius Chapel are covered with beautiful paintings created by Italian artist Antony Moshaini. The Chapel is dedicated to Aloysius Gonzaga and one portion of the chapel paintings illustrates the life of Aloysius Gonzaga.
  • Light House Hill Garden, Mangalore: Located in the Hampankatta, Mangalore the Light House was said to construct by Hyder Ali in 18th Century. This tower was used by Hyder Ali followed by the Britishers. Near the Lighthouse there also is a scenic garden which attracts a lot of visitors.
  • Ullal Dargah, Mangalore: Ullal Dargah is a shrine of Hazrat Sayyid Mohammed Shareef Madani who said to have visited from Holy City of Madina 500 years ago. The Dargah is famous for Uroos Fair which happens once in every five years and attracts people from across India.
  • Panambur Beach, Mangalore: It is one of most pristine and well maintained beaches of India. The beach is located 10 KM from the city centre and is famous for dolphins and adventure sports. Apart from this the beach is known for kite festival and Karavali Utsav which is a popular beach festival which is hosted every year.
  • Ullal Beach, Mangalore: Located in the locality of Ullal this beach is 5 km from city Centre. This pristine beach is mostly known for its water sports such as jet skiing. The beach is renowned for its clean sea shore, serenity and beautiful surroundings including 14 acres of casuarinas groves.
