Amarkantak is a pilgrimage town in Anuppur of Madhya Pradesh state. The ancient name of this place was Riksha parvat. It is a unique natural heritage destination and a meeting point of the Vindhya and the Satpura Ranges along with the Maikal Hills. This place is well-known after the popular 15th century Indian poet named Kabir who is said to have meditated on Kabir Chabutra. This Kabir Chabutra is also called as the platform of Kabir. There are ancient temples of Kalachuri period that were built by Kalachuri Maharaja Karnadeva during 1041–1073 AD. This town is surrounded by a rich variety of flora with medicinal properties. It is one of the homes of the Pandavas during their exile that is mentioned in the Mahabharata. It is a popular hill station apart from being a pilgrimage destination. Amarkantak receives large number of tourists throughout the year.
