Dewas is a small ancient town in Malwa Plateau with great religious importance. The town lies in close proximity with cities of Indore and Bhopal. Once a capital to two princely states during British Raj, Dewas has today prospered into an industrial hub with the presence of many small, medium and large industrial brands in its courtyard including Tatas, Kirloskers, Arvind Mills, S Kumars, Tata – Cummins, Gajra Gears,Gabriel India Ltd, Ranbaxy Labs, Steel Tubes, John Deere and the Bank Note press. The town is also the biggest soya processer in the country and is referred to as soya capital of the country. A drought hit area until 2005, Dewas is today a model of water management and irrigation program which has been acknowledged under the “Best Water Management Practices” category by United Nations.

Main Attractions
  • The Great Gates of Dewas: Syaji Dwar, Shukrawaria Gate, Singh Gate and Ek Ateet are for landmark gateways of Dewas
  • Khivni Sanctuary: Established in the year 1955 Khivni sanctuary has an area of 115.23 kilometers under reserves forest and 16.67 kilometers under protected forest. Fauna sheltered and protected in Khinvi Sanctuary is almost similar to those found in other sanctuaries around central India. There are lions [though rarely seen easily], leopards, Sambhar, Cheetal, Chinkara, Black Buck, Bhendki, Nilgai and a number of species of birds.
  • Kavadia Hills: This assemblage of seven hills consists of very minutely carved stone pillars. Though a result of volcanic eruption these triangular, rectangular, pentagonal and hexagonal pillar structures gives the illusion of being hand crafted by an expert craftsman. According to the folklores these were created by Bhima the Pandava from Mahabharata to check the flow and way of mighty Narmada to conform a vow though he never succeeded in realizing his goal it is said.
  • Pawar Chatris: Build near a water body locally called Meetha Talab these Chatris reflects the splendor of Maratha Architecture. Very much like the tradition of other central Indian cities Chhatris are cenotaphs build to commemorate the memory of royalty. Dewas has long been the seat of Maratha Pawar rulers and these chhatris were perhaps build to glorify their memory.
  • Gidya Khoh: Gidya Khoh is a natural waterfall 9 kilometers from Dewas on Indore Nemawar highway. The water here descends from an escalation of 600 feet. The scenery evoked by the smoky outpouring is so spectacular that it revives the memory of Bhedaghat of Jabalpur. The fact that the fall is located amongst plush green wilderness makes it a perfect picnic spot for tourists as well as locals.
  • Dhara Ji: Located on the banks of holy Narmada, Dharaji is a panoramic religious place of importance. The spot is the location of a bi-annual [twice a year] fair on Anmawasya [no moon] days. Adherents here come from places to cast away the evil powers from a possessed one. The place attracts a lot of touristic attention because of its serenity and a waterfall created by Narmada.
