The city boasts of a comparatively larger contribution to country’s cultural element. Eminent personalities like Makhanlal Chaturvedi, Harishankar Parsai, Subhadrakumari Chauhan, Seth Govind Das, Roopkumar Soni, Alakhnandan Sinha, Gyanranjan Shrivastava, Rehman, Prem Nath, Krishna Raj Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Jaya Bachchan, Aadesh Shrivastava and Raghubir Yadav all came from Jabalpur. Main Attractions
  • Madan Mahal Fort: A symbol of pride and honour of Jabalpur, this 11th century fort was constructed by Gond chieftain Madansahi. The fort was so erected on the hill top that is unmistakable from every part of the city. It was built for a manned vigil on invaders but it is much more than that, according to many myths surrounding Gond forts, it is believed that somewhere in between folds the fort has gold bricks or that there is an underground tunnel somewhere in the fort which was used as an escape route in case or any invasion.
  • Balancing Rocks: As an added bonus, while visiting Madan Mahal Fort, one comes across the geological wonder of Balance Rocks, where a huge rock is naturally balanced on the tip of another rock occupying very less space.

Built in 1976, Rani Durgawati Museum treasures some of the finest prehistoric relics, sculptures, statues, coins [currency] and inscriptions. Each one of this treasure trove is showcased with proper and vital information about the piece and the era which it represents. The relics and coins are from 3rd to 18th century and are original. First Floor of the museum also has some rare hand written letters of ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi.

These 16th century tribal rulers build many a castles and forts in this area, some most prominent ones include Moti mahal, Rai-bhagat ki kothi, Begam Mahal, Rani Mahal etc. Moving further one also comes across a watch tower im Mandla City. Most of these are in terrible condition but gives a good glimpse on the life and culture of tribes.

The fort was attached and run down by Akbar’s Army under Aasaf Khan’s command.
