Nestled at an elevation point of 462 meters above the sea level, Shivpuri is a small town on the northern corner of Madhya Pradesh. A popular tourist destination during monsoon Shivpuri shares its borders with Jhansi [Uttar Pradesh] in the east and Rajasthan in west. The fact the Shivpuri is endowed with many small waterfalls and lakes as well as green belts of dense forests, made it an ideal summer retreat of the Scindia royalty. It is said the impenetrable forests of Shivpuri were the preferred hunting spots for royalty and Britishers alike in the past. According to a record Akbar hunted and captured several hundred elephants from these jungles to assimilate them in its army.
