Ambikapur is one of the oldest and largest city of Chhattisgarh. This beautiful town is situated in the Surguja District, near the Vindhyachal – Baghelkhand mountain ranges at an average elevation of 623 meters. Most of the terrain of the town is forested and hilly. It is named after Hindu goddess Ambika (Mahamaya) Devi. Indian Independence, The city was the capital of the Princely state of Surguja. As per mythological records, the city was licked with great epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. The tribes of Pandas and Korwas, who still lives in around Ambikapur , they regard themselves as descendants of Mahabharata legends, Korwas and Pandos. This splendid town offers the amazing nature in the form of caves, hills, rivers, hot water springs and waterfalls. Apart from this, Ambikapur is also known for its rich history and culture, it is also known as the temple city of Chhattisgarh as it is the home various significant ancient temples. 

Main Attractions
  • Tattapani, Ambikapur: It is continuous flowing hot water spring, which flows with same source and quantity throughout the year. This hot water is suitable for curious various skin diseases. This springTattapani is located in the Surguja District and is towards the north-east of Ambikapur.
  • Ramgarh and Sita-Bengra: These are the sacred spot which are situated in North Surguja District. These spots are believed to be the places where Sita and Rama spent their period of 14years in exile. In front of these caves, there are Rround rock-cut benches that have been arranged in terraces, forming thea shape of a crescent.
  • Mahamaya Temple, Ambikapur: This temple is situated in towards the east of Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh. The main deity here in this temple is the Goddess Durga. The best time to visit this temple is during Durga Puja and Navratri., when the temple is decorated with lights.
  • Jogimara Caves, Ambikapur: The caves are located in Surguja District in the state of Chhattisgarh. These caves are around 360feet in dimensions and age back to 300BC. There are many paintings of animals, human beings, birds and flowers on these caves.
  • Thinthini Patthar, Ambikapur: The rock is situated near Ramgarh and Sita-Bengra, and is a cylindrical rock which measuringes around 200 quintals and is located in the Surguja District. When the rock is striked, it gives a metallic echo, which is considered to be divine, by the local inhabitants. For striking this rock, travellers can use a solid material that gives strong metallic sound.
