Kawardha is one of the beautiful city of Chhattisgarh, located in in Kabirdham district. This amazing city is lies on the southern bank of river Sakari at an average elevation of 1,158 ft. It is surrounded by small hills and forest. The city is situated at 120kms northwest of Raipur.  The city was established by first Ruler Mahabali Singh in 1751. Kawardha was the capital of Kawardha State, one of the princely states of the Eastern States Agency during the British period. Kawardha was also played the major role during the Kabirpanthi Movement in 16th century. The major attraction of the city splendid Kawardha Palace, which was established in the 1930s by Maharaj Dharamraj Singh. The Palace was built by using the best Italian marble and stone. Other major attractions are Sarod Reservoir, Madwa Mahal, Bhoramdeo Temple, Radha Krishna Temple and Pushpa Sarovar Lake.

Main Attractions
  • Kawardha Palace, Kawardha: The Palace was built in the 1930s by Maharaja Dharamraj Singh. The palace is constructed with Italian marble and stones. It has been declared as a heritage hotel and now provides accommodation.
  • Sarod Reservoir, Kawardha: It is believed to have been constructed in the 11th century. The reservoir is suitable for boating, swimming and fishing. It is also an ideal spot for watching the sunset and trekking.
  • Madwa Mahal, Kawardha: It is a kilometer away from the Bhoramdeo temple. It is believed that the mahal was built in 1349 to mark the marriage of the Nagwanshi king, Ramchandra Deo and Haihawanshi Queen. There is a Shivalinga in this temple.
  • Bhoramdeo Temple: The temple is situated about 18kms away from Kawardha. The temple was built between the 7th and 11th centuries by the Nagwanshi ruler, King Ramchandra Deo. It has been built on a 5 ft high platform in the Nagar architectural style. This temple is also called the 'Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh' as it looks like the temple of Khajuraho.
  • Radha Krishna Temple, Kawardha: This temple is situated close to Bhoramdeo Temple. The unique feature of the temple is its underground rooms where sages performed rituals. There is a small holy water tank called Ujiyar Sagar that is located adjacent to the temple.
  • Pushpa Sarovar Lake, Kawardha: The Lake is located near the Bhoramdeo temple in the Kawardha District. It is surrounded by trees and attracts many different birds.

Malls, multiplex and amusement parks are not available in Kawardha. Entertainments in this town is mainly depends local cinema halls, which are located across the city.

  • By Air – are no regular flights from other major cities of the country to Kawardha; nearest airport is Raipur Airport, about 120 km away from Kawardha.
  • By Railway – The nearest major railheads from Kawardha are Raipur 120kms away from Kawardha.
  • By Road – Kawardha is in midway of NH-12, which is the Raipur to Jabalpur National Highway. Kawardha is well connected by roads from Raipur (120 km), Bilaspur (124 km), Durg (120 km), with regular buses playing between these locations. The best may be Raipur as there are so many buses to reach Kawardha.
