Mahasammund is a district located in Chhattisgarh district bordering Odisha. Mahasammund is known for its temples and vihars. The region was once capital of South Kosala Kingdom which were ruled by Somvanshiya Emperors. Sirapur located in Mahasammund was centre of important during the Somvanshiya rule. Some famous and area of interest in Mahasammund are Lakshman temple, built in 650 AD the structure is known for unique Symmetry, precise construction and exquisite carvings, Buddha Vihara, and ASI Museum.
