Rajnandgaon is the town in Chhattisgarh state. It was also known as Nandgram, which was dominated by Somvanshis, Kalchuris and Marathas. Rajnandgoan or Nandgram as it was known was once a princely state known as Raj Nandgaon during British rule in India. The city was ruled by ‘Mahants’ who were Hindu priests once. The fist ruler of the princely state was Ghasi Das Mahant. The district of Rajnandgaon was established on 26 January 1973, previously it was the part of Durg district.
