Guruvayur is a town that is situated in the Thrissur district of Kerala state. Guruvayur is also written as Guruvayoor or Gurupavanapuri. On 26th January 1962, Guruvayoor Township was formed. Thrissur district is well-known for many renowned temples. Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple is one of the fourth largest temples in India. It is often referred to as "Bhooloka Vaikuntam" which means the holy abode of Vishnu on Earth. It is a Hindu temple and one of the five famous Krishna/Vishnu temples in India. Thousands of devotees are seen visiting this temple every day. It is believed that the central shrine has been rebuilt in 1638 A.D. This place can also be termed as Pilgrimage town. As there are no history records about the establishment of the temple, Guruvayur may be 5,000 years old according to the legends. This temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is said that the 2nd sages of the idol were collected from the Dwarka city and established it in Kerala while the Dwarka city was demolished.  It was brought by Vayu Deva and Brihaspathi and was placed in Guruvayur. And the town got its name from "guru" brahaspathi and "vayu' deva. But there are many reasons after the name Guruvayur according to various eminent historians. Guruvayur is an emerging tourist destination and one of the most sacred pilgrim hubs in Kerala. Its main attraction is Guruvayoor Temple that is also considered as Dwarka of the South.

  • Guruvayoor Temple, Guruvayur: This temple is also known as Guruvayur Sri Krishna Temple. It is a Hindu temple that is dedicated to Lord Krishna (an avatar of the god Vishnu). It is an important worship places for Hindus. Guruvayur is also known as "Dwarka of South India". It is often referred to as "Bhuloka Vaikunta" which translates to the "Holy Abode of Vishnu on Earth".
  • Mammiyoor Shiva Temple, Guruvayur: Guruvayur is famous for this ancient temple named Mammiyur Temple.  This temple is also known as Mammiyur Mahadeva Kshetram. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva facing east and is in the form of Uma Maheswara. Lord Vishnu is also worshipped here equally. This temple is also used as marriage hall.
  • Parthasarthy Temple, Guruvayur: This temple happens to be the oldest temple in the city dating back to the Pallava period and earlier. It is also known as the Parthasarathy Swamy Temple.  This temple is 61st Divya Desam in 108 Vaishnava Divya Desams. The spiritual bliss captivates the devotees to come to this temple. It is calm and serene Lord Krishna Temple.
  • Statues of Maraprabhu and Guruyaur Kesavan, Guruvayur: There is a huge statue of Kesavan in the premises of Sree Valsam guest house complex. It is the majestic Elephant King that has been erected. One can see the statue of Mara-Prabhu. As depicted in tradition folklores, it a creative interpretation of Lord Krishna as a trunk of giant banyan tree.
  • Thiru Venkatachalapathy Temple, Guruvayur: Guruvayur is an ancient and unique shrine in many respects. It is situated at Thiruvenkidom desom. It is a famous SreeKrishna Temple. The idol that is in this temple was brought from Tirupati.
