Begusarai is one of the major city and district of Bihar state in India, which is also known as "Industrial Capital of Bihar". Indian Oil Corporation's Barauni Refinery, which is one of the oldest oil refineries of India is situated here. This city is situated on the northern banks of Ganga River. It is also renowned for its rich history and culture. As per historical records the evidences of continued habitation found here since the Mauryan period. It was an important center of administration, art and culture during the Pala dynasty, was an imperial power during the Late Classical period which originated in the region of Bengal. 

Main Attractions
  • Kabar Taal Lake, Begusarai:  It is Asia’s largest freshwater oxbow lake, lies in Manjhauli sub-division of Begusarai district. It is natural shelter of hundreds of species of endangered and rare domestic and migrant birds.
  • Nawlakha Temple, Begusarai: It is an ancient temple located in Bishnupur area of Begusarai. It is said that this temple was built by Mahanth Deer Das Ji in the middle of 17th century. The temple is much popular among devotees for its devotional significance and among tourists.
  • Simaria Ghat, Begusarai: It is situated on north bank of River Ganga and thus Simaria Ghat is famous as sacred place among devotees and the most famous Simaria Mela of Begusarai is also held here during a month of Kartik annually.
  • Kanwar Lake Bird Sanctuary, Begusarai: It is a popular bird sanctuary located in th Kabar Taal Lake, where nearly 60 species of migratory birds arrive here from Central Asia during winter. In addition to these, there are 106 species of resident birds.
  • Begusarai Museum, Begusarai: The museum was established in 1981, and one of the most captivating attractions in Begusarai as it has a collection of unique specimens of stone sculptures and coins which belong to Pal period.

  • By Air – The city of Begusarai does not have an independent Airport. The nearest airport is at Patna which is around 127km from the city.
  • By Railway – The New Delhi-Guwahati railway line passes through Begusarai. A good number of trains originate or pass through Barauni Railway Junction, which falls in the railway division map of Begusarai.
  • By Road – The interiors parts of the district are well connected by the main roads. The National Highways 28 and 31 are the lifelines of transportation as they connect this district to the other parts of the country.
