Situated on the Banks of Ganga Buxar is a district in Bihar. Historically it has been part of Bhojpur district before it became a separate district in 1992. Historically Buxar dates as old as Indus Valley Civilization AS terracotta of Indus Valley Period has been found in the region. As per Hindu Mythology, Buxar is the same place where Rama slayed demon Tarka. The district also saw beginning of The British Raj in India, as British East India Company defeated the combined army Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II, Nawab of Bengal Mir Qasim and the Nawab of Awadh. Some important places of attraction in Buxar such as Buxar Fort which is a historic fort erected by King Rudra Deo in 1054 AD

Main Attractions
  • Buxar Fort, Buxar: It is one of the ancient testaments, situated along river Ganga in the town of Buxar. The historic fort was erected by King Rudra Deo in 1054 AD. Along with the historic fort, some of the attractions nearby the fort are Gauri Shankar Temple, Nath Baba Temple and many others.
  • Brahmeshwar Nath Temple, Buxar: The shrine is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There is a special significance of paying homage during the month of Shrawan. This shrine can also be approached from Raghunathpur, situated at distance of 2 km.
  • Sita Ram Upadhyaya Museum, Buxar: It is one of the largest repositories in Buxar that features various artefacts and articles. The gallery was established in 1979 for preserving rare stone sculptures and coins. The museum is named after a local resident. There is a separate gallery in the museum that displays his collection.

  • By Railway – It is very well connected to various major cities of North India by railway. There are many trains that connect Buxar to several important places like Howrah, Mumbai, Ahmadabad and New Delhi etc.
