Kochi is one of the popular tourist destinations in the state of Kerala. Formerly Kochi was known as Cochin. Kochi is popularly known as the Queen of Arabian Sea. The name Kochi got its name from the Malayalam word ‘Kochazhi’ that means ‘small lagoon’. This city is one of the finest natural harbors of the world famous for world class spice trade for many centuries. Often called as Ernakulam as it is in the district of Ernaklam, the city is a major port city on the south-west coast of India surrounded by the Arabian Sea and the Laccadive Sea.  This rich city is the gateway for several popular hill stations like Munnar and Vagamon, the wildlife sanctuary of Eravikulam National Park and Periyar National Park, famous backwater at Alleppey and Kumarakom and so on. Apart from this Kochi is a land of diehard fans of traditional and ghazals music. Because of the natural majesty of the city, it is also called as “The Land of Coconuts”. Kochi remained the main seat of Portuguese India until 1530 later occupied by the Dutch and the British as a princely state. Tourism in Kochi has ranked the sixth best tourist destination in India.   • The Chinese Fishing Nets, Kochi: It is one of the most famous tourist attraction in Kochi. The Chinese Fishing Nets of Kochi is believed to be have been introduced in Kochi by Chinese explorer Zheng He. It was established between 1350 and 1450 AD. It is, undoubtedly, one of the most photographed sights in Kochi. On should head to the Vasco da Gama Square for the best view of the nets.
  • Marine Drive, Kochi: It is a popular hangout place in Kochi. It offers a spectacular view of the backwaters and the Kochi Harbour. There are other attractions like The Rainbow Bridge and the International Tourism Boat Jetty Complex. It is also an important centre of shopping activity in Kochi.
  • Fort Kochi, Kochi: There is no better choice than setting out on foot to explore the historic town of Fort Kochi. Collectively it is also known as Old Kochi or West Kochi. It is a jewel in the crown of Kerala. While talking a walk, one can have a glimpse of Fort Immanuel.
  • Hill Palace, Kochi: Hill Palace is the largest archaeological museum located at Tripunithura. The complex consists of an archaeological museum, a heritage museum, a deer park, a pre-historic park. This palace was built in 1865 by the Maharaja Of Cochin. It is opened to public every day except Mondays.
  • Mattancherry Palace, Kochi: Mattancherry palace is popularly known as the Dutch Palace. Tourist can experience the Kerala murals depicting Hindu temple art, portraits and exhibits of the Rajas of Kochi. This palace was built by the Portuguese around 1555and gifted to the King of Cochin.
  • Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, Kochi: Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica is one of the eight Basilicas in Kerala. In 1558, this church was originally built by the Portuguese and elevated to a Cathedral by Pope Paul IV. It is very beautiful and peaceful church. It is amongst the oldest churches in India
  • St.Francis Church, Kochi: St. Francis Church was originally built in 1503. It is the oldest European churches in India. The history of the church dates to 1503. When Vasco da Gama visit India in 1524 for the third time he died in Kochi and his body was buried in this church. It is well-known for its beautiful architecture and ambience.
  • Ernakulatthappan Temple, Kochi: Ernakulatthappan Temple is an old temple that is in the centre of Kochi. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the major temples of Kerala and the deity is facing the sea. Devotees take a sacred bath in the temple pool.
