The culture of Samastipur is also very old and known for its historical past. Hinduism is the main religion of Samastipur but people also follow Islam, Buddhism, Christianity and Sikhism. The festivals celebrated here are Holi, Dussehra, Diwali, Chhat, Eid etc. The major language of Samastipur is Hindi. But people also speak Angika (a dialect of Maithili Language) and Urdu. Samastipur is famous for its cuisine. The main food of the people of Samastipur is Makhana, Fish and Paan. The staple food includes roti, bhat, dal, tarkari and achar. Different varieties of Kebabs and Mutton is also consumed by the local residents who are non-vegeterians. The local cuisine of the city is a mix of Mughlai and Central Asian food with an Indian touch in it. Street food is very popular among the city residents. Various mouth-watering street foods like chaat, litti chokha, phuchka (a deep-fried crepe with tamarind sauce) are served by local street vendors all over the place.

  • Hasanpur, Samastipur: It accommodates one of the two sugarcane factories present in Samastipur thereby providing livelihood to a lot of people who engage in agricultural and manufacturing activities.
  • Pusa, Samastipur: The place has contributed enormously to the Indian freedom movement, as the famous freedom fighter and kisan leader Pandit Yamuna Karjee used to reside here at one point of time. Pusa Block has other prized research facilities such as the Indian agriculture research institute and Sugar cane institute.
  • Rosda, Samastipur: In India there are a total of fifteen maths of Kabir; two of them are located in Rosda. The disciples of Kabir who wanted to pay due respect to him and his teachings built this math’s.
  • Thaneshwar Temple, Samastipur: This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and new temples are also coming in the surroundings. According to common belief, the place is blessed by Lord Shiva. Another famous temple named 'Khudneshwar Sthan' is also located nearby.
  • Vibhutipur, Samastipur: It is known for the statues of Suryadev, Lord Shiva and Nandi. The place is widely known for antiquities, which were found during excavation of various sites. Hence, the place has got both religious and historical significance.
  • Bakhri Buzurg, Samastipur: It is blessed with rich production of tobacco, maize, rice and wheat because the land possesses extremely fertile soil.
  • Dalsingsarai, Samastipur: It is also a sub-division of Samastipur district; it produced a large variety of vegetables like tomato, potato, and etc., which are very famous.
  • Kharahia, Samastipur: The village is located approx. 9kms away from Rosera Ghat railway station in Samastipur. The place has also called as "Mini Kolkata" because the people here carry out the production of chilli as a commercial crop. The hard- working farmers using modern technology for their work and hence Kharahia qualifies as an enriching learning destination.
  • Mahamada, Samastipur: It is famous for development in Pusa block and sets an example for other village, and is acknowledged for its juicy litchis and mangoes. The village is situated on the banks of the river Budhi Gandak.
  • Mangalgarh, Samastipur: It belongs to Hasanpur block Samastipur which is located near Dudhpur, where Lord Buddha had preached Buddhism and at the request of king Mangaldev agreed to stay for some time.
  • Malinagar, Samastipur: This village is located near darbhanga district, which is well known for ancient temples of lord shiva. The village organizes the fair of Ramnavmi every year and is one of the most awaited moments of the year.
  • Shivaji Nagar Block, Samastipur: This block is significant in terms of religion, spirituality and knowledge. A philosopher named Udayanacharya had preached philosophy here and the place is also a witness to many of his noteworthy creations.
  • Surauli, Samastipur: On the occasion of Basant Panchmi, people of Surauli organize the grand Saraswati puja with great enthusiasm. The village also hosts a three day fair to add to the celebrations and a well directed stage show also takes place.
  • Musrigharari, Samastipur: This place is popular among the local population and travelers for the vibrant celebrations it emerges itself into, on the pious occasion of Durga Puja. The city also observes Muharram in a big way.
  • Tiswar, Samastipur: It is an oldest village located in the Mithilancahla area and known for its soothing greenery. It is situated on the banks of the Yamuari River.
  • Vidyapati Nagar, Samastipur: It is located near Dalsinghsarai block adjacent to the banks of the Ganga River. Vidyapathi Nagar has been named after famous Maithili poet Vidyapati. It beliefs, the legendary poet in his search of Lord Shiva, breathed last at this place.
  • Tabhaka, Samastipur: The place is famous for agriculture and its hearty celebration of Durga pooja. The village is an epitome of social unity of the villagers as the entire village is beautifully managed by six gram panchayats.
