Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand and one of the most popular city in the state. Ranchi was once inhabited by Oraon tribes hence it derives its name from Anchi which in Oraon means bamboo grove or stave. Ranchi is one of the fastest growing cities in India and lies to the south of Chota Nagpur Plateau. Ranchi is surrounded by waterfalls and there are about 5 waterfalls in its vicinity hence it is popularly known as City of Waterfalls. Ranchi has a humid subtropical climate due to dense forests in its vicinity. Summers are hot and humid while winters are cool. There are many tourist attractions in around the city some of them being, Rock garden & Kanke dam, JSCA International Stadium Complex, the waterfalls near Ranchi namely Dassam Falls, Hundru Falls, Jonha Falls, Hirni Falls, and Panchghagh Falls, Nakshatra Van and Jagannathpur Temple. 

Main Attractions
  • Nakshatra Van: Nakshatra Van is one of the most popular tourist attraction of Ranchi. It is established by the Jharkhand Forest Department. The Nakshatra Van is situated on the heart of Ranchi city, in front of the Governor residence of the State. This park is divided into several sections, which is linked with Hindu astronomy and Hindu astrology. The tree of this park is also linked with the particular Nakshatras.
  • Jharkhand War Memorial: Another major attraction of Ranchi, Jharkhand War Memorial is dedicated to soldiers from Jharkhand who had sacrificed their lives for the Nation from before independence till now. The War Memorial was established in 31 October 2008.
  • Jagannathpur Temple: Jagannath Temple is one of the holiest shrine of Ranchi. It is located at the distance at about10 km apart from the heart of the town. The temple was founded in 1691, by king of Barkagarh Jagannathpur Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo. The architectural style of this temple is similar to the Puri temple, Rath is also held every year.
  • Rock garden: Rock Garden is another major attraction of Ranchi, which is located at about 4 km from the town, near the Gonda Hill. The design to the Garden is replicate the Rock Garden of Jaipur. It is the ideal place for picnic.
  • JSCA International Stadium Complex: Jharkhand States Cricket Association International Cricket Stadium is also one of the major attraction of Ranchi, which was inaugurated in January 2013.  Many International matches are held in this stadium.
