Chatra is a district located in the state of Jharkhand. Once part of the Hazaribagh district Chatra came into existence in 1991 as a separate district. Chatra shares it border in north with the state of Bihar of which it was once part of. The history of the region dates back to the Mauryan period and was known as Avatika. Chtra is covered with thick forests and waterfall and offers some amazing scenic views for visitors. Some popular tourist spots in Chatra are: Bhadrakali temple which is a temple dedicated to Goddess Durga and is known for its scenic beauty as it is surrounded by hills and forests, Kunda cave which hosts old ruins of Kunda Palace which existed in the region during 17th century, and Tamasin which is a thick forest and contains waterfall, water reservoir and an old temple. 

Main Attractions
  • Gogri: Located at the distance of about 6kms away from Chatra, Gogri is one of the major attraction of this region. It is a small waterfall in the region. One can reached there through a steep stream flowing nearby.  
  • Bichkiliya: Bichkiliya is one of the most popular attraction of Chatra. It is a water reservoir, which lies on the banks of Lilangen River. The reservoir is located at the distance around 11 km from Chatra.
  • Kauleshwari Devi Temple: Kauleshwari Devi temple is one of the most prominent shrine of this region. The temple is located on the top of the Kolhua Hill. It is one of the oldest temple of the town which is dedicated to Goddess Kauleshwari Devi. The temple offers the clear and beautiful view of the surrounding hills.
  • Keridah: It is another beautiful waterfall of this region, which is located at the distance at around 8 km away from Chatra. The Keridah waterfall is separated into three parts that are located between two hill rocks.
  • Khaya Banaroo: Khaya Banaroo is a popular picnic spot located 10 km SE Chatra. The area is accessible via Chatra-Chandwa Road. The area has been with stone wall which has been cut into terraces with balcony  
  • Dumer Sumer: This scenic waterfall is located 12 km from Chatra in the north. The water fall is accessible by trekking on foot after traveling 10 km north of Chatra.
  • Kunda Cave: Located about 4 km from Kunda village lies ruins of 17th century Kunda Palace. The area also has a cave which is about half a mile from the ruins which is connected by a narrow path. The cave contains a Shiv Linga which is prayed by locals and attracts substantial crowd.
  • Kolhua Hill: Kolhua Hill is located near Huntergunj which is a small town in Chatra district. The hill has an elevation of about 1,575 ft and gives a clear view of the surrounding region. The hill is also famous for Kolhua Mela which is celebrated at Kauleshwari Devi Temple on the eve of Ram Navami. The temple is located on the top of hill and the only way to access it is via trekking on foot.
  • Maloodah: Located about 8 km from the city of Chatra Maloodah is a popular waterfall in the region. The waterfall and surrounding area is very scenic and is accessible only by trekking 3 km in the forest. Maloodah waterfall has a height of 50 ft and is semicircular in shape.
  • Barura Sharif: This is shrine dedicated to Data Amir Ali Shah and is located 12 from Pratappur, which is a small town in Chatra district. The Shrine is popular among various religions including Hindus and Muslims and is known for 10 days Urs which begins from 1st of the Chaitra and continues till 10th of the month. The Urs attracts thousands of devotes from around the state.
