Dhanbad is a city located in Indian state of Jharkhand. It is a mining town known for its famous coal mines. The city also hosts many big steel industries such as TATA and IISCO. Dhanbad was formed out of Manbhum in 1956 before it was part of the district since 1928. Geographically Dhanbad is located on Chota Nagpur Plateau. The weather of Dhanbad varies in between humid subtropical climate and a tropical wet and dry climate. Summers here are very hot with temperature rising to as high as 48 degree Celsius and while winters are cool. There are quite a few places of interest in Dhanbad some of them are Maithan Dam, Topchanchi Lake, Shakti Mandir and Parasnath Mandir.

Topanchi Lake: It is a picturesque lake located in Jharia, Dhanbad and is located about 35kms from Dhanbad city. The lake was carved out in 1917 along the slopes of Parasnath Hills. The lake is surrounded by small hills and greenery making it a beautiful spot for picnic and other leisure activities.

Shakti Mandir: It is a temple dedicated to Goddess Durga which hosts a flame which was brought from Jwala Devi temple located in Himanchal. Popular among devotees the temple draws huge crowd almost every day.

Maithan Dam: Maithan Dam is built on Barakar River and is used to produce hydroelectricity. The dam extends from 5 km in length and 50 meters in height and is spread over a huge area of 65 sq km. The dam is 48 km from Dhanbad and is very scenic and is a very popular picnic spot among the locals and is especially popular during rainy season in the region.
