Dumka is a city located in the state of Jharkhand bordering West Bengal. Dumka was once part of Bhagalpur district however it was carved out as headquarter of Santhal Pargana division in 1855 after Santhal rebellion against the Britishers. The region surrounding Dumka has been inhabited by Mon-khmer and Munda tribes since Stone Age. Dumka is located at an average elevation of 149 meters and has humid subtropical climate where summers are hot and humid while winters are mild. Dumka offers many attractions for people visiting the city some of them being: Masanjore Dam which is a very famous picnic spot in the city; the dam is built on Mayurakshi River and is known for its picturesque view, Kurwa Park which is another famous picnic spot in Dumka, Chutonath and Dharmasthan.

Main Attractions
  • Mayurakshi River: It is the major river of the Dumka District, which is around 250 km long. The Mayurakshi River has its source in the Trikut Hill. It is the major tourist attraction of the town.
  • Shristi Hill Park: It is one of the most popular tourist attraction of Dumka. It is located at the hillock, which is known for the collection of rare plants and the splendid view. It is also popular among the children. One can also enjoy the boating here.
  • Tatloi: Tatloi is another popular tourist attraction of Dumka, which is a hot water Spring. This amazing water spring is located at the distance of about 15kms from the heart of town. Tatloi is surrounded by hillocks with lush greenery which offers the pleasant and healthy atmosphere.
  • Chutonath:  Located at the distance of about 20 km from the district headquarters of Dumka, Chutonath is one of the most picturesque place of this region. It is an ideal picnic spot having splendid natural beauty.  Chutonath is surrounded by hillocks and river. It is also one of the religious place for Hindus as it believed that this place is associated with Hindu god Lord chutonath.
  • Dharmasthan: It is the holiest temple of this region which is located at the heart of Dumka Town. The temple is dedicated to goddess kali, 7 days special puja is held at this temple during the occasion of the Durga puja.
