Nilambur is a major town located in the Malappuram district of Kerala. Located on the banks of the Chaliyar River, the town is bordered with the Nilgiri Hills, Eranadu, Palakkad and Calicut. This town is a true delight for a sightseer’s. The scenic beauty of this destination lures travelers to enjoy and explore with a pleasant climate. Nilambur has an architectural bequest of Kerala as well. The meaning of the name “Nilambur” is ‘Place of Nilimba’. It is a Sanskrit word for bamboo. Nilambur is better known as the ‘Land of Teak Plantations’. It is said that this town has achieved primary level education for all its inhabitants for the first time in India. Because of lush greenery wood and fertile landscapes containing bamboo, teak, rosewood, etc. captivated the attraction from many tourists.  Conolly's Plot is famous for the world's oldest teaks plantations named after Henry Valentine Conolly, who was an East India Company official in the Madras Presidency. Nilambur is now emerging as a popular tourist destination in India. On the way to Ooty, Mysore and Bangalore tourist can take this place as a break journey. It is also famous for the Nilambur Vettekkoru Makan Paattu festival that is held in the Nilambur Kovilakom Temple premises every year. There are many tourist interests such as Conolly Plot, The Teak Museum, a Bio Resources Park, Banglavu Kunnu, Aruvacode Pottery Village, Adyan Para Waterfalls, Koyippara Waterfalls and so on. 

Main Attractions
  • Teak Museum, Nilambur:  Nilambur is famous for teak plantation. In 1995, this museum was established jointly by the Kerala Forest Department and the Kerala Forest Research Institute.  In 1846, the plantation owes its name and origin to H. V. Connolly, the district collector of Malabar. This museum was A teak museum was also set up nearby. It is an interesting sight near Connolly’s Plot is the long hanging bridge constructed across River Chaliyar. The museum aims to create widespread awareness about all aspects of the teak tree.
  • Nilambur Kovilakam, Nilambur: Nailambur Kovilakm is a beautiful palace constructed in the traditional Kerala style of architecture where the erstwhile rulers of Nilambur stayed. There is a famous temple and its main deity is Vettakkorumakan (incarnation in tribal avatar), believed to be the son of Lord Shiva.
  • Nedumkayam Rainforest, Nilambur: Nedumkayam is one of the beautiful and dense forest in Kerala located at 15 km away from Nilambur. It is a little-known tourist destination with beautiful, dense forests. It is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and an ideal place for trekking. There are iron bridges that were constructed by the British and the tomb of the engineer who died here.
