Tawang is one of the major town of Arunachal Pradesh, located at an elevation of about 3,048 meters above the sea level. This beautiful city is surrounded by by Tibet in the North, Bhutan in the South-West and Sela ranges separate West Kameng district in the East. It is the home of Monpa tribes except Shyo village as this village is dominated by people of Tibetian origin. The amazing town is known for its spectacular nature and rich history. Tawang offers stunning valleys, Gorges Rivers and beautiful waterfalls.

Main Attractions
  • Bong Bong (Nuranang) Waterfall, Tawang: Is situated in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh and is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in this part of the country yet to be known to the travelers. It lies some 2 kilometers away from the town of Jang on the road connecting Tawang and Bomdila.
  • Regyaling Monestary, Tawang: Is about 1 km from Tawang Township. The monastery was constructed by the former Rigya Rinpoche and after his death, his secretary; Chang- Sey took over the charge of monastery. The Regyaling Monastery is nestled amidst lush green pine groves.
  • Shonga-tser Lake, Tawang: The scenery and the lake itself is so alluring that it has been an ideal location for many Indian filmmakers to shoot their movies. One of the popular Bollywood Flicks was shot here at this lake, and is located at 42kms from Tawang.
  • Sella Pass, Tawang: In winter, the Sela range is lavishly dressed with white snow that gives visitors a magnificent sight to feed to their eyes. This place is snowed in most of the year and offers excellent and heavenly views all year round, if there is any heaven on earth, it is Sela Mountain Pass providing visitors to fill with heavenly bliss in abundance.
  • Tawang Monastery, Tawang: It is the largest monastery in India, and second largest in Asia, was founded by Merak Lama Lodre.
  • Jaswant Ghar, Tawang: Is about 21Kms from Sella Pass towards Tawang there is a home of a valiant warrior Jaswant Singh, MVC (Posthumous) who gave a supreme sacrifice during a war against Chinese soldiers. This Jaswant Ghar is still kept well maintained for visitors to pay a salute and tribute to this Great Son of the soil who had immortalized himself by virtue of his excellent deed of bravado.
  • Pangang Teng Tso Lake, Tawang: it is only 18 Km from Tawang township. The lake has always been a center of attraction to the tourists visiting Tawang. It is also an ideal spot for picnic. In winter lake remains frozen and the surrounding area provides an ideal spot for skiing.
  • Majushree Vidyapith, Tawang: It is the only home in Tawang for orphans. Tourists can visit the place and spend some moment with the inmate children in the orphanage. The orphanage is only 5 km from Tawang Township.
  • Tawang War Memorial, Tawang: This temple has been built in dedication to the martyrs who gave their supreme sacrifice for the safeguard of India during 1962 Indo-China war. The memorial accounts the events of the war and lists soldiers who sacrificed their lives.
  • Urgelling Monastery, Tawang: Located about 3 km from Tawang Township and is believed to have been in existence since 14th century and one of the oldest monasteries in Tawang.

  • By Air – The nearest International Airport from Tawang is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati, roughly 480 Kms from Tawang.
  • By Railway – Tezpur is the major rail head closest to Tawang. Buses and private taxis are available to reach Tawang.
  • By Road – Buses and Taxi ply regularly between Tezpur (Assam) and Bomdila, and Tawang. It takes about 12 hours to reach Tawang from Tezpur. In addition to private taxis, shared taxis are also available
