Silchar is one of the major city and the headquarters of Cachar district in Assam. It is situated on the banks of the Barak River, which is also known as Barak valley. This town is known as a trade and processing center of North East for tea, rice and other agricultural products. It is also known as the gateway of two north east states of India Mizoram and Manipur. The first polo club in the world was formed at Silchar during 1850s, when British tea planters re-discovered the game. The city is also known for its rich heritage and culture as well.  Silchar is also renowned for large scale of tea plantation as this amazing town is surrounded by more than 100 tea estates.

  • Bhuban Mahadev Temple, Silchar: Is located about 40 km south of Silchar is the Bhuban Mahadev Temple also called the Bhuban Mahadev temple, a medieval age temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located atop the Bhuvan Hill and was built by Kachari King Lakshmi Chandra.
  • Gandhibag Park, Silchar: It is situated at the centre of Silchar. It is a beautiful, big park that is known for its vast greenery in the midst of a growing city.
  • ISKCON Temple, Silchar: It is in the heart of Silchar in a locality named Ambica Patty. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and serves as an important attraction for tourists and the local residents of the town.
  • Khaspur, Silchar: It is specially known for the Kachari Fort. The Kachari Fort served as the royal seat of the Kachari dynasty.
  • Jatinga, Silchar: It is located about 80kms from the town Silchar. Scientific studies have proved that the birds don’t actually commit suicide but are killed.
  • Kanch Kanti kali Mandir, Silchar: This mandir is dedicated to the Four-Armed Goddess Kali and Durga. The mandir was built by a Kachari king who had dreamt that Goddess Durga had commanded him to make a four-armed idol and install it in a temple. This is how the Kancha Kanti Mandir was formed.
  • Maniharan Tunnel, Silchar: It is located about 5kms from Bhuvan Hill. Situated in the vicinity of the tunnel is a temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. This place is thronged by tourists from around the country and the world making it one of the must-visit places during your trip to Silchar.

Getting There
  • By Air - The Kumbhirgram airport in Silchar is located at about 22 km from the town and is a highly modernized air station, with state-of-the-art facilities. It is the second busiest airport in the state, next to Guwahati.
  • By Railway - Maintained and managed by the North-East Frontier Railways, Silchar railway station is in the core of the town, at Tarapur and is a major link to the different parts of India. The primary express trains operating from this region are Cachar Express, Barak Valley Express and Jiribam Fast Pass.
  • By Road – As with the other regions of Assam, the ASTC (Assam State Transport Corporation) provides regular bus services from Silchar as well, to other regions within the state. Functioning 24 hours a day, the corporation has some regular and luxury buses for the normal routes and special mini buses for the neighboring hilly areas.
