Churachandpur is renowned as a historical place in the state of Manipur. It is one of the largest district and also the second largest town in Manipur, located amidst hillocks and valleys. The town got its name after Maharaja Churachand Singh. Churachandpur has witnessed heavy bombarding when Japanese entered North-East. Locally, this town is well-known as Lamka. The word Lamka has been derived from the Manipuri words, ‘Lam’ means path and ‘Ka’ means junction. Literally it means ‘place situated at a road junction’. After the reconstruction of this town, it become one of the most peaceful place in Manipur. The place is a scenic delight. It is also an important commercial hub of the state. Between October and March is the best time to visit this unexplored and historical place in Manipur. Being a beautiful tourist destination, there are many beautiful tourist attraction such as – Khuga Dam, Ngaloi, Tipaimukh, Tribal Museum, Tonglon Caves, and so on. The place is like heaven on the Earth surrounded by dense forests and sprawling grasslands. Visiting this place one can meet some most amazing people and tribal group in Manipur. 

Main Attractions
  • Khuga Dam, Churachandpur: Khuga Dam is one of the most popular dam located to the south of this town Churachandpur. This dam was construction and started working in 1983, but ignored for many years. In 2010, it was resumed and Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the dam. Recently, it has become a famous picnic spot for local inhabitant and also open for all tourist.
  • Ngaloi, Churachandpur: It is a small and beautiful village that was founded in 1950 by Jangkhohen Haokin. The original name of this village is Ngaloimoul. It is believed that Telsing family of the Haokip clan has been residing here since the 16th century. The most major tourist attraction is the Ngaloi Waterfall. It is a perfect destination to view the magnificent cascading waterfall.
  • Tipaimukh, Churachandpur: It is another popular tourist destination that is located just a few kms away from Churachandpur best for nature lover’s tourist. Visiting to this place one can go for boating enjoying the scenic beauty of the nature.
  • Tribal Museum, Churachandpur: It is a small tribal museum where tourist can witness many interesting items from the history. This museum displays beautiful tribal crafts and their belongings.  It has a decent collection of antiques that belonged to the tribal people once. You can also find some ancient weapons and very old ornaments, religious accessories, handloom crafts, cultural artefacts and so on.
