Ponmudi is a small tranquil hill station with winding pathways it comes under the district Thiruvananthapuram of Kerala state covered with some rare medicinal herbs and plants, and brilliantly hued orchids. It is located about 915 metres above the sea level. Ponmudi runs parallel to the Arabian Sea that is also a part of the Western Ghats mountain range.  Ponmudi is also known as ‘Golden Crown’ in Malayalam. As the sunrays falls on the hills, one can enjoy the golden colored hills and hence Ponmudi is better called as the golden peak. It is the lonely hill station that is very close to the Sea. Along with a beautiful array of mountain flowers, it is the best destination for adventure seekers. It offers excellent adventure sports like trekking, camping, rock climbing, mountaineering, etc.   It is also encouraged by the tourism government to attract tourists from all over the world. This breathtaking picturesque beauty of the hill station feels as though time has left this place untouched. In the midst of the tea estates, tourist can take the pleasure of the verdant woods, variety of mountain flowers, deer park and wild orchids blooming. The weather is very chill and pleasant throughout the year. It creates a magical ambience for couples. Best time to visit Ponmudi is from the month of October to March. This is the best destination and paradise place for bird watchers. It is also an enticing place with rich flora and fauna.

  • Kallar, Ponmudi: Kallar is a popular tourist destination. It is the River Kallar that offers a good picnic spot. It is also known as Golden Valley. There is a beautiful waterfall named the Meenmutti waterfall that attracts many tourist from all over India.  
  • Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve, Ponmudi: It is another popular wildlife reserves of the region. The reserve is launched by UNESCO, notified under the Man and Biosphere Programme. Agasthyamalai Biosphere Reserve is covered by the reserve includes areas of Neyyar, Peppara and Shendumey Wildlife Sanctuaries. Recently it became the part of World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 2016.
  • Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Ponmudi: The sanctuary was commissioned in 1983 that is named after the Peppara dam. It was established in the year 1938 and declared as a sanctuary in 1983. It is one of the most ideal place for adventure expeditions and emerging as a big attraction to wildlife enthusiasts and ornithologists.
