Shillong is one of the most important city in the state of Meghalaya. It is an eco-friendly hill station that comes under the Khasi hills and a great tourist visiting place in North-East India. Shillong is also known as the ‘Gleneagles of the East’ or ‘Scotland of India’. Being the capital city of Meghalaya, it has emerged as one of the most sought tourist destination in India. Earlier Shillong was the capital of Assam until Meghalaya came into being on 21 January 1972. The origin of the name ‘Shillong’ has derived from presiding deity, named Lum -Shyllong, which means powerful deity. It is place for every traveler, most preferable for nature and peace lovers. Spectacular beauty of the nature allures many visitors. During the time of British Raj, Shillong was a summer retreat destination for them. Opened in 1889, Shillong is famous for Golf Course that consists of 18 holes and is the oldest east of the Suez. There are several tourist attractions which are truly mesmerizing and rewarding. Some of the interesting points of Shillong are – Elephanta Falls, Shillong Peak, Lady Hydari Park, Nohkalikai Falls or Seven Sister Falls, Umiam Lake etc. Let your mind drift to the most wonderful greenery land and experience the dramatic and magical drama of the clouds.

  • Elephant Falls, Shillong: Elephant Falls is a popular tourist spot in the divine city of Shillong. It is situated at a distance of 12km from the city. This falls is also known as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew locally. It attracts a huge number of tourist from all over India. Literally, it means three steps water falls.
  • Shillong Peak, Shillong: Shillong Peak is another popular tourist visiting place in Shillong. It is the Meghalaya’s highest peak that is at an altitude of 1965 meters above the sea level. Tourist can have breath taking view from this spot. It is also the highest peak in the Himalayas. Best place for nature lovers and photographers.
  • Shillong Golf Course, Shillong: Shillong Golf Course is one of the most unique place for every travellers. It was introduced in 1898 by British civil service gentlemen who constructed 9 holes at Laban. Then after the first World War, Shillong gained popularity in 1924 as a golf resort for European golfers who used to come from East Bengal and Calcutta. Now, at present the Golf Course consists of 18 holes. This is a Catholic Church
  • Cathedral Catholic Church, Shillong: This is a Catholic Church also known as the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, located at the heart of the city. It falls under the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Shillong. It is one of the most beautiful church in the state. This historical monument of peace and divinity is almost 50 years old. There one can find various scenes and chapters from holy scriptures clearly depicted with artwork.
  • Ward Lake, Shillong: It is one pf the most scenic and popular attraction of Shillong. The shape of this lake is like horse-shoe popular for its garden walks and boating. This lake is also known as Pollock’s Lake. This lake is believed to be 100 years old. It houses an extensive range of exotic plants and flowers, botanical garden, fountains, park making it a best place for local people to roam here.
