Tura is an unspoiled tourist destination that is still unexplored. It is a hilly town located in West Garo Hill district of the state Meghalaya. This beautiful town is located at the Sivalik hill range surrounded by small streams and green valleys. The environment is quite tranquil and spellbinding. The name Tura has been derived from the native god ‘Durama’, who believed to reside in the hills. This name Tura was given by the British when India was under their rules. Most of the people residing here are Garos and 90% of them are Baptist. There are some major tourist attractions in Tura. Tura Peak and Nokrek National Park are among the popular sightseeing options in the region. From the top of the peak tourist can have the most beautiful view of the valley. Best time to visit Tura is throughout the year as the temperature remains moderate.

  • Tura Peak, Tura: Tura Peak is at a height of 872m above sea level. Trekking to the top of Tura peak tourist can have the massive yellow plains of our neighbouring country Bangladesh. This trek is very convenient for every traveller. It is also known as the Land of Gibbons. It consists of majestic thick forest and after reaching the top one can feel the cool breeze. One should not miss this place while visiting Tura.
  • Chibragre, Tura: It is one of the most popular picnic spot in Tura. This is the place where River Gangol and river Rongram meets and then flow down to mighty river Brahmaputra(Assam) and then to Bay of Bengal (West Bengal). One can swim in the water, cook on the vast beach of this place.
  • Rongbang Dar Falls, Tura: This falls is also known as the Rongbang Dare locally, located in the East Garo Hills. It is best during the monsoon months. It presents motorists driving from Asanangre towards Williamnagar, a romantic visual of lasting satisfaction. It is a tributary of the Simsang River and its real beauty and magnitude can be experienced when one goes down to the place.
  • Pelga Falls, Tura: Pelga Falls is also popular for picnic spot. Apart from this, it is also famous for angling. It is situated 7km away from Tura. It is one of the most refreshing wayerfalls in Tura. There is a Garo Bamboo Bridge traditionally built over the Ganol River.
