Ratnagiri is famous for mahavihara, or major Buddhist monastery, located near the Brahmani and Birupa river valley in Jajpur district of Odisha, India. It is close to other Buddhist sites in the area, including Pushpagiri, Lalitagiri and Udayagiri. Ratnagiri is the part of the Orissa Buddhist Circuit and site of a major Buddhist monastery. Ratnagiri is visited for the stupas and monastery that have been excavated and restored. This is one of the few towns in perhaps all of India's semi Urban landscape that has so many places to offer in their sheer number. The town is not the kind of place that you go to for a luxury getaway but the kind that pleases your explorer instincts. Many prehistoric sites have been excavated from Ratnagiri district which shows a major influence of Buddhism.
