Anantnag district is the third largest city of Jammu and Kashmir. Anantnag is most famous for Amaranth’s Yatra as it is the starting point for the Yatra which takes place during the summers from July-August. Anantnag is located at an elevation of 2740 meters, hence it offers temperate climate during summers however winters here can be very cold. Apart from Amarnath Yatra Kolahoi Glacier which is situated 26 kilometers north from Anantnag at an average elevation of 4,700 metres is famous. This is source of Lidder River which is tributary of Sindh. Anantnag also holds Betaab Valley, which earns its name from Betaab film which was shot here, the film turned out to be very successful and won various awards. This valley lies in the northeast of Anantnag en route to Amarnath Shrine. The valley is itself is covered with lush green meadows and surrounded by snow clad mountains and the region around the valley is covered with dense vegetation.

Main Attractions
  • Baisaran Valley: Baisaran valley is another most popular and most beautiful tourist attraction of Anantnag, which is situated at about 5kms away from the heart of the town.  The valley is known for its stunning meadow surrounded by the dense pine forest and snow-clad mountains.  It is an ideal destination for nature lovers, camping and trekking. 
  • Mamaleshwar Temple: Mamaleshwar Temple is one of the ancient and most sacred shrine of the region, which is dated back to 400 A.D. The temple is devoted to Lard Shiva. Mamaleshwar Temple is located at an elevation of 8800 ft above the sea level, on the banks of Kolahoi stream, which is the major source of Lidder River.
  • Tulian Lake: It is one of the most beautiful and popular tourist attraction of Anantnag, which is situated at the distance of about 16kms from the main town. Tulian Lake is located at an altitude of 3,684 meters above sea level. The lake is surrounded on three sides by mountains and dense pine forest. One can reach there through pony.
  • Aishmuqam: Aishmuqam is one of the holiest shrine this region, which is located at the distance of about 20kms from Anantnag. The sanctorum is devoted to Sufi saint Baba Zaina-ud-din Wali, who was also known as ‘Zaino Shah Sahib’. It hosts Zool festival every year in the month of April, in respect to Shiekh Zaina-ud-din Wali.
