Shimla is the capital and largest city of Himanchal Pradesh. Since 1864 to independence, Shimla was used as summer capital of India by Britishers during the British Dominion over India. Infact Shimla was established by the Britishers in 1815, before this time Shimla was nothing more than few villages and an ancient Jhakoo temple. Shimla is a very popular destination among Indians and foreigner tourists alike. Infact it has now become the defector holiday capital for many Indians. The city is known for heritage Colonial architecture. Temperature of Shimla is subtropical highland climate and varies from -4 degrees Celsius in winters to 31 degrees Celsius during summers.  Some of the most famous places sought out by tourists are The Mall, Christ Church, Jakhu Hill, Summer Hill etc. 

Main Attractions
  • Christ Church:- Christ Church is one of the oldest church of north India, which was constructed in the neo-Gothic style in 1857. Colonel Dumbleton donated the clock on the church in 1860. It is one of the most impotent attraction of Shimla and very well maintained and remains in good condition, however, The Clock no longer functions due to entropy.
  • The Mall:- It is the major attraction and street in Shimla, which was built during British colonial rule. It is lies a level below the ridge. The Redge to Viceregal Lodge stretch forms the core of Shimla’s ‘’Heritage Zone’’. It has the number of cafes, restaurants, shops, department stores, showrooms. It is one of the prime attraction of Shimla.
  • The Ridge of Shimla:- It is a large open spacious platform, from where you can find the breathtaking view of the mountain peaks of Shimla. It is another famous attraction of Shimla.
  • Shimla State Museum:- It is another most popular attraction of Shimla, established in the style of colonial edifice with sprawling lawns all around. The Museum was built in 1974, which houses a large number of ancient sculptures, coins, handicrafts, magnificent paintings of the state and also other locations of India. 
  • Tara Devi Temple:- Tara Devi Temple is located height of 1851 meters above sea level, it is located at 11 kilometers from Shimla. It is one of the important temples of Shimla.
  • Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex:- It is known as one of the most historic place in Shimla 122 years old and it has been recently reopened to the public. Built in a Gothic Victorian Style it serves as an important center for various cultural and literary events.

  • By Air: The nearest airport is the Chandigarh airport which is a distance of 113 km away from the Shimla. It is well connected with all major cities of India.
  • By Train: The nearest major railway Station is Kalka, which is located at the distance of about 89kms from Shimla. The Kalka railway station is well connected with all major cities of India.  Shimla has a small railway station and no major trains ply here, however it connected to Kalka by a toy train, which is also a tourist attraction.
  • By Road: Shimla is well connected with all the major cities of India. You can hire taxis as well as state buses to reach the hill station from these cities.
