Barog is a small hill station lying in the Solan district of Himanchal Pradesh. The hill station was named after British Engineer Colonel Barog who was commissioned to build a railway track here back in 1903, which ended in a failure. Barog is located at a height of about 1600 meters and is about 70 km away from Shimla. Winter season starts from November to March and summers stay from April to July in the region. The temperature varies from 23 and 10 °C during summers and between 15 and 5 °C during winters. Some famous places to visit in Barog are Dolanji Bon Monastery, Grave of Barog which an incomplete tunnel for railways is essentially designed by Colonel Barog and Choor Chandni Peak.

Main Attractions
  • Grave of Barog: It is one of the major tourist attraction of Barog. It is named after an engineer Barog, who was given the responsibility to construct the tunnel but due to some error in calculation, the two ends of the tunnel did not meet. Therefore, was fined by British Government and due to embarrassment, he committed the suicide. A splendid garden located is one of the major attraction of the town.
  • Choor Chandni Peak: It is one of the most popular attraction for trekking lovers. This Choordhar Mountains peak is located at an elevation of 3,650 m above the sea level, which gives the breathtaking view of surroundings.
  • Suketi Fossil Park: Located on the banks of the Markanda River, Suketi Fossil Park is one of the major attraction of Barog. This was the first park in Asia, which have been established at the exact site where the actual fossils were found. It houses 8.5 million years old fossils.
  • Sholoni Devi Temple: One of the renowned temple of Barog, which is located in the southern zone of Solan. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Sholoni Devi.
  • Barog Camping Ground: Located amidst the forest of pine trees, which offers the amazing view of the Choor Chandni Mountains and the Solan Valley.

  • By Train: The nearest major railway Station is Kalka, which is located at the distance of about 68.4kms from Barog. The Kalka railway station is well connected with all major cities of India.  Another small railway station is Shimla, which is located at 26.6kms from Barog. Shimla is connected through toy train from Kalka.
  • By Road:  Barog has good road network which is connected with all major cities. It is located at 26.6 kilometers from Shimla by road.
