Located on the banks of River Godavari, Kakinada is fourth most populous city of Andhra Pradesh.  It is said that it got its name from demon Kakasura who was slain here by Lord Rama. Kakinada is known for Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a wildlife sanctuary and estuary situated in Kakinada. It is the second largest stretch of mangrove forests in India with 24 mangrove tree species and more than 120 bird species. Kakinada is also famous for Adurru, Pithapuram, Shri Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple, Bhimesvara Temple and Coringa Sanctuary are the major places to throng in East Godavari. 

Main Attractions
  • Bhimesvara Temple, Kakinada: - Is located at the region of East Godavari, the temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and situated in Samalkota, 28kms from Kakinada city. This holy destination is rectangular and there are several writings in the temple that shows that the village was earlier called as Chalukya Bhimavaram.
  • Shri Bhavanarayana Swamy Temple, Kakinada: - The temple is located in Sarpavaram, near Kakinada. Is devoted to God Bhavanarayana, the second name for Lord Vishnu, and is irrefutably a very famous place to visit.
  • Adurru, Kakinada: - This village is located in Razole Taluk, and is a historic place in East Godavari known for its monuments. The ruins of Buddhist Stupas, Chaityas and Viharas were discovered by The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in the year of 1953. The excavation performed by ASI revealed ancient materials such as dishes, jars, bowl of kaolin and red pottery and troughs. Mahastupa is the major attraction of the place.
  • Coringa Sanctuary, Kakinada: - Is situated in East Godavari, which is close to Kakinada city, is an amazing scenic place to visit and is widespread over an area of 235 square Kms. Rich flora and fauna can be experienced in the Coringa Sanctuary. There are around 35 varieties of Mangrove plants which are present at this place. It is very famous for Olive Ridley Sea Turtle, Estuarine Crocodiles and Fishing Cats.

  • By Railways – The nearest Railway Station from Kakinada is Kakinada Junction, located at 3 Kms from the city. The second nearest Railway Station is Samalkot Railway Station, located at 12 Kms from Kakinada.
  • By Road – It is well-connected by road to the rest of the state and other major cities of India. The National Highway 214, which stretches about 270 km from Kathipudi to Pamaru passes through the town.
