Chail is a small town located 45 km from Shimla, Himanchal Pradesh. It is known for its famous Chail Palace which was built by Maharaja of Patiala during British rule for his help and support of Britishers during the Anglo-Nepalese War which lasted from 1814-1816. Chail is located at a height of 2250 m from sea level and the area around it is covered by beautiful forest of chir pine and deodards. Due to its close vicinity and connectivity with Simla, Chail has become a very popular tourist destination over time. Chail is also known for world’s highest cricket ground which was built back in 1893. Apart from cricket ground and the famous Chail Palace, the hill station is known for Chail Sanctuary, which homes sambar, goral, and cheer pheasants. The Sanctuary is covered in rather wide area covering a total of about 10,854 acers. Some other places of interest in Chail are Chail Gurudwara, Kali ka Tibba and Lover's Point.
