Chamba is a town located in Himanchal Pradesh. Known for its antiquity existence of Chamba dates to 2nd Century BC. The region was once inhabited and ruled by Khasas and Audumbaras tribes followed by Gupta and Rajput dynasty. Chamba is headquarters of Chamba district and located on the junction of Ravi and its tributary Sal River at an elevation of about 1000 meters. Chamba is surrounded by Dhauladhar and Zanskar ranges of the inner Himalayas. Chmaba is well connected via road and railways to major cities like Delhi, Chandigarh and Shimla. Chamba is known for festivals, paintings, numerous temples and palaces. Some famous temples in the region are Champavati Temple, Banni Mata Temple, Chamunda Devi Temple, and Lakshmi Narayan temples. Chamba also has many colonial buildings such as Church of Scotland which was built during 1899.

Main Attractions
  • Bhuri Singh Museum: It is one of the holiest shrine of Chamba. The Museum was founded in 14 Sep 1908, which houses the paintings of Kangra and Basohli, portraits, various artefacts such as coins, regional jewelries, royal costumes, arms and musical instruments etc.
  • Chamunda Devi Temple: Chamunda Devi Temple is one of the major shrine of this region. The temple is dedicated to Hindu Goddess Chamunda Devi. The temple was founded in 1762 by Raja Umed Singh. The temple is surrounded by lush green valley and widespread Himalayan Mountains, which gives an amazing experience.
  • Laxmi Narayan Temple: Laxmi Narayan Temple one of the most popular temple of the region. The temple was built in 10th century Raja Sahil Verman, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
  • Chaugan: Situated on the center of the town Chaugan is one of the major attraction of the region. It is the hub of all social and cultural activities of the town. It was built during the British period.
  • Akhand Chandi Palace: Akhand Chandi Palace was constructed by Raja Umed Singh during 1747 - 1765 and used it as his resident. Later it was renovated by Raja Sham Singh with the help of British engineers in 1879. Now it has been converted into a Government College and District Library run by the Himachal Government.
  • Church of Scotland: Also known as 'St. Andrew’s Church', Church of Scotland was founded by Rev. William Ferguson. It was taken over by the Church of Scotland in 1973.
  • Sui Mata Temple: Sui Mata Temple is one of the major attraction of the town, devoted to the regional princess of Chamba, Sui, who sacrificed her life for the people of her kingdom. An annual fair is held in the memory of her. The shrine is located on the top of Shah Madar Hill.
