Kalpa is a small town located on the banks of Sutlaj River in Kinnaur district of Himanchal Pradesh. Located at an elevation of 2960 meters, it lies 265 km beyond Shimla via NH22. Kalpa forms the base of Kinnaur Kailash Mountains which are famous for its snow-capped peaks. Kalpa is most famous for its apple orchards and are a major cash crop for the region. The region around of Kalpa has been inhabited from ancient times and there are a lot of old and small villages and ancient temples in region. The winters are long in the region due to its high elevation and usually lasts from October to May. The temperature drops as low as -15 to -20 degrees Celsius, hence the best time to visit is during summers. Some famous places near Kalpa are Reckong Pao, which is headquarters of Kinnaur district and is just 8 km from Kalpa, and Chanadika Devi temple which is in Kothi. 

Main Attractions
  • Kinnaur Kailash: It is one of the most beautiful mountain in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, having the height of 6050 meters. It considered as one of the most sacred mountain for Hindus as well as Buddhist. From Kapa offers the breathtaking view of Kinnaur Kailash, which is the prime attraction of this town.
  • Roghi Village: Located at the distance of about 4kms from the Kalpa, Roghi Village is one of the most beautiful village of the region. Here you will experience the culture and traditions of Kalpa along with amazing scenic beauty. The town is also known for the apple orchards, enjoy the nature walk through the enchanting surroundings.
  • Suicide Point: Situated at just 10mnts away from Kalpa Village, Suicide point is renowned for its dangerous trench and vertical slope.
  • Chakka Peak Trekking:  It is one of the popular attraction for adventure seekers, which is located around 15,000 feet above sea level. It takes around two to three hours, en-route enjoy the splendid scenic beauty in the form of valleys, lakes, amazing mountains and springs.
  • Kamru Fort: Kamru Fort is one of the most popular attraction of Kalpa, located at the height of 2600 m above sea level. It has various gates with a picture of Lord Buddha at the main gate of the fort.
  • Batseri: Located at the left bank of Baspa River, Batseri is a small and beautiful village in Kalpa. It is renowned for its breathtaking surroundings and splendid landscapes. Here you can also enjoy the shopping at local markets and buy handmade handicrafts such as shawls, and Kinnauri caps etc.
  • Narayan-Nagini temple: Located on the top of a hill at Chini Village, Narayan-Nagini temple is one of the major attractions of the village. The temple was built in traditional Tibetan Pagoda style of architecture.

Kalpa is a small hill station, hence there is no Malls and multiplex are available here.  Fair and festivals are the main source of the entertainment of this region, the main festivals of Kalpa is the Phulech Festival. It is celebrated in the month of September and October.
