About Bekal Fort

The Bekal Fort is one of the largest fort of Kerala spread over an area of 40 acres and was built Shivappa Nayaka vation almost 300 years ago in 1650 mainly for defence purpose and surrounded by beach which gives a picturesque view of the Arabian Sea from its high observation tower where once cannons were kept which makes it a must visit place for the tourists from all over the world. This fort has seen the change of many rulers in the past such as Indian royal dynasties to the rule of refined Sultans and surviving the colonial era of British Raj. Located in the Bekal Village of Kasaragod District of Kerala, Bekal Fort was declared as the special tourism area by the Government of India in the year 1992.
