About Ghanashyam's House
Ghanashyam House also known as Nati Gosain Dol or Ghanashyam Dol is a beautiful terracotta brick temple which is situated on the bank of the Joysagar tank got its name from the architect ‘Ghanashyam’ and its architecture is inspired by Islamic architecture. Ghanashyam House’s history has two stories and as per the first one Rudra Singha who was the Ahom king from CE 1696-1714 brought Ghanashyam from Koch Bihar and made him his chief architect and built this monument. The latter also constructed the capital city of Rangpur and as per the second story, Ghanashyam constructed the Joysagar group of temples. He was then sent back to his native place but was captivated for secretly carrying a map of the Ahom capital. He was imprisoned for life and was sent to Rangpur. While incarcerated, he constructed the Ghanashyam House near the Joysagar group of the temples.
