Warangal Fort was built in the 13th century by King Ganpatideva of Kakatiya dynasty and is around 2 kms from the main city centre. It is one of the ancient forts in South India which was destroyed by the invaders and now only the ruins of the fort can be seen one can also see some remains of ancient temples and sculptures of the ancient Kakatiya period. There are 45 towers in the fort and pillars which are spread over an area of 19 kms. There is a temple of Mother Earth called 'Swayambhudevi Alayam'. The Warangal Fort is an important attraction in the itinerary of Warangal tours and is also one of the popular tourist attractions in Warangal.
