Previously Ladakh was part of Jammu and Kashmir which literally means land of high passes. The government of India removed the Article 370 on 5th Aug 2019 from the Constitution of India and divided the state into two Union Territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. The Ladakh region extends from the Great Himalayas in the south to north of the Kunlun Mountain range. The region is sparsely populated due to its tough environment which is a cold desert like weather, i.e. short summers and long winters with deficit of rain. Ladakh region has been of importance since ancient times as it was used as a trade route including the famous Silk Route. Ladakh region is not limited to Ladakh itself but also covers Lahaul and Spiti which is in Himanchal. There are only two districts inside Ladakh region namely Leh and Kargil. The region attracts thousands of tourists every year who come here for various regions from finding adventure to tranquility.
