Tripura is one of the seven sisters of the North East States. The state is surrounded with natural beauty. The climate is pleasant and is a major tourist destination in India. It is the the third smallest state of India sharing its boundaries with the Indian states of Assam and Mizoram to the east and Bangladesh to the north, south, and west. This state is geographically isolated and only one road NH 44 connects it to rest of India. The state capital is Agartala. Tripura is rich in natural resources such as natural gas, rubber, tea and medicinal plants and its climatic condition is favorable for cultivation of various fruit and horticultural crops including rice, jackfruit, pineapple, potato, sugarcane, chilli and natural rubber. Rice is the major crop of the state and is cultivated in 91 per cent of the cropped area. The state has a wide variety of medical plants having 266 medicinal plants, 379 species of trees, 581 herbs, 320 shrubs and 165 climbers. Unlike other north eastern state it is also one of the largest producer of bamboo and second largest producer of Rubber after Kerala. It is also famous for tea plantation having 58 tea gardens. Tripura attracts a large number of tourists every year because of its pleasant climate and scenic landscape and tourists attractions such as historical Hindu and Buddhist sites, temples, rivers and rock carvings.
