Karwar is an upcoming tourist destination located in the district of Uttara Kannada in the state of Karnataka. It lies on the west coast of Southern India situated at the point where the Kali River meets Arabian Sea. The name Karwar has been derived from the nearby village of Kadwad. Kade means last and wado means precinct or area in Kannada language. It is a beautiful unexplored beach tourism destination surrounded by Arabian Sea. Karwar is covered with dense forest, complemented by glorious weather preferable for every tourist. It is an idyllic beach getaway. This is the place where Rabindranath Tagore penned his first play as he was inspired by the tranquil ambience of the place. Karwar is a beach destination that is also an important naval base for the Indian Navy. It is a major center for agriculture, manufacturing and tourism. There are multiple beaches that include Casurina beach and Arga beach. Many visitors from Karnataka and neighboring Goa come here to visit the calmness and serenity of the beaches. Karwar is good for beginners and those who would like to do activity. Apart from this the city provides some water sports activities for tourists that offers boat rides in Kali River, water sports in the beaches making it a perfect beach destination. 

Main Attractions
  • Sadashivgad Fort, Karwar: It is a significant and picturesque fort located in the Karwar. It was built on an old fortified site on the north bank of Kali River. It is about 60 metres by 20 metres on top of a hillock east of Sadashivgad. In 1715, the fort was named after Sadashivgad by his son Basavlingraj. The path takes through hillock on a steep road. There is also a garden for relaxation. Apart from this, one can see Kali River joining the Arabian Sea.  
  • Binaga Beach, Karwar: Binaga Beach is one of the most scenic beaches nearby Karwar. It is in the Uttara Kannada District of Karwar. Also visit a famous church named Our Lady of St Anne’s Church that was built by the Portuguese. Visitors can also see a Naval Base established by Indian Navy Force that is termed as “Project Seabird”.
  • Warship Museum, Karwar: Warship museum is a well preserved museum situated at Ravindra Nath Tagore beach. It is a War Heritage museum that makes us feel proud. This Navy ship was in active service during Indo – Pak war of 1971. Now it has become a museum that is informative and inspiring. It is a must visit place for Nation lovers. 
  • Narasimha Temple, Karwar: Narasimha Temple is an isolated temple located on the Kurumgad Island shaped like tortoise. The main idol of this temple is dedicated to Lord Narasimha, a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple buzzes with colorful festivals during the festive month of January. Visitor can reach there by taking ferry service. 
  • Dargah of Pir Shamsuddin Kharobat, Karwar: This Dargarh is also known as the Pir fort by the Portuguese. It is named after a Saint Baghdadi. Devotees come here to have their wishes fulfilled that reside in the Sadashivgad hill fort.  It was built in the 17th century. Tourists visiting Karwar should visit the Dargah of Peer Shan Shamsuddin Kharobat once if time permits. 
  • Rabindranath Tagore Beach, Karwar: It is one of the best beaches in Karwar for morning and evening walk. It is a wonderful and very peaceful beach with lot of greenery.  There is a yearly festival known as 'Karavali Festival' held on the Tagore beach and continue for 3 to 4 days. Best beach for witnessing a beautiful sunset.
  • Nagnath Temple: Nagnath Temple has been recognized as an important historical building and is under the protection of Archaeological Sites and Remains Act of 1958. It is one of the popular Hindu temples in Karwar, Karnataka. Thousands of devotees come here to worship.
