About Ellora Caves
Ellora Caves are one of the major tourist attraction sites of Aurangabad in the state of Maharashtra. These caves were built in the 2nd century BC beside the Waghora river in the shape of a horse’s shoe. Till the 9th century these caves were used as monasteries. It is one of the UNESCO world heritage site and have various architectural carvings of Lord Buddha and his teachings and the other caves have Mahayana Tradition. One can also see the various paintings which depicts Persian culture, bull fights, pink elephants and golden gooses.
 
The architecture and sculptures of Ellora Caves will keep your eyes awestruck and have different names such as the caves ranking 9, 10, 19, 26 and 29 are known as Chaityagrihas & 8, 12, 13, and 15 are known as Viharas. Beautiful wall paintings and well-designed motifs can be seen in the monasteries. You will find the caves as grand masterpieces which reflect the incredible architectural heritage of our country. In the centre of this cave is a massive 15 feet tall Buddha Statue. Visiting Ajanta and Ellora is like travelling back in time. It will leave you spellbound.
