About Great Living Chola Temples

The Great Living Chola Temples a UNESCO World Heritage Site was built between the period of early 11th and 12th century CE by Chola Empire kings and are one of the best work of architecture, sculpture, painting and bronze casting. The Great Living Chola Temples are a UNESCO World Heritage Site which include the Brihadisvara Temple at Thanjavur, the Temple of Gangaikonda Cholapuram and the Airavatesvara Temple at Darasuram and are dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Brihadisvara Temple was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, while the Temple of Gangaikondacholapuram and the Airavatesvara Temple were included in the site in the year 2004.
