About Suraj Kund

Surajkund which is located around 8km away from South Delhi is in Faridabad in the state of Haryana. The name Surajkund means ('Lake of the Sun') and is an artificial reservoir built at the back side of the Aravalli hills by the Tomar King Suraj Palin the 10th century who was a devotee of Sun thus built a Sun temple on its western bank. It is famous for its Surajkund International Crafts Mela organised every year from 1st to 15th Feb that displays the Indian handicrafts, handlooms and folk traditions. It is a must visit place for people from all the parts of the world. The fair displays a wide variety of handicrafts that includes delicately embroidered fabric, hand woven furnishings, terracotta artefacts, jewellery, metal and cane-ware and also one can enjoy the delicious Indian cuisines. Moreover, the Chaupal and Natyashala along with, folk dances and musical evenings add colours and euphoria of rhythm to the entire experience. State award winning crafts persons from all the corners of India participate in the Fair. The Mela is an annual event that highlights some of the finest handloom and handicraft traditions of the country.
